John Macky to Thomas MackyMy dear Thomas
I hope that it may answer for you and James to work together as I think the one might assist the other, but if it should be otherwise I hope you will do nothing without consulting each other on every matter whatever.
I expect you and James will consult well together and look out for some place convenient that might suit us. I hope William will be a good farmer and be able to manage any transaction of business that we may embark on.
Thank God both your mother's health and mine are good and we and William and Dorcas would be all glad to be along with you. It matters little where we die and certainly there is no good prospect to get on in this country as far as we can see at present. However, you know that country and you knew this and if we could get fixed there we would certainly be more happy together and may God direct us what to do for the best in all our ways and actions and guard us from every sin and every evil, and from every evil dispensation may God guard us and may He bless you and comfort you and make you happy is the prayer of
Your affectionate father
